ABOUT THE BAND

No Idea are a well organised powder keg of different influences: From hardcore street punk to Motown soul, stripped back funk and metal, delivered with passion. A masterclass in live performance, (the album was recorded in one day) with a really strong connection to the crowd. Some say the bits between the songs are as good as the songs themselves.
To understand the band, you have to understand the ingredients – the people who make up the band.
Spencer, the enigmatic lead vocalist brings a captivating blend of soulful melodies and a barely concealed venom in the lyrical content which is entrancing to watch. Spencer is a lady who will have you recounting vocal melodies way after they are heard, with the hairs bristling on the back of your neck as you do so. Echoes of Chrissie Hynde, Dolores O'Riordan and Aretha Franklin.
G Beef on guitar winds together colourful strands of musical influences ranging from early Jam, AC/DC, The Meters and The Clash through a guitar tone paying homage to Billy Duffy and Geordie Walker. Solid, catchy riffs, delivered with a measured brutality.
Steve Cody on bass provides a rich, deep sauce to the proceedings. Smooth layers of perfectly executed thumping pulsating basslines that form the strongest of foundations for every track. Reminiscent of the best rock players of the 60’s and 70’s, Steve delivers heaps of low end sounding as smooth as a mink mitten. The pefect foil to the angular guitar work and drumming savagery.
And last but not least, Hans Hammerhanz – ‘borrowed’ from punk legends One Way System, his drumming is powerful, precise and savage, mixing intricate rhythms with thunderous fills which combined, create a unique style that is as good to watch as to listen to.
Rated by major artists such as Tigercub and Roddy Byers (The Specials), No Idea are a casserole of different influences, creating a unique sound and a visceral, powerful, live experience that appeals to all ages: From emo kids to 1% bikers, No Idea are a safe bet for any live occasion.
Driven by a ‘DIY’ mentality and a deep seated distrust of the establishment, No Idea are fiercely independent and highly motivated. An infectious blend of subversion, grooves and instantly catchy melodies, delivered like a heavyweight boxers’ combination punches.
